Pain takes shape in a faceless form, becoming a universal scream. The clinging hands seek release, while the feet uproot themselves in an attempt not to succumb. Pain is part of the human experience and not something to flee. Even when devastating, it need not close us to the future. Moving through it and accepting it can slowly lessen its power to overwhelm us. Here, blue in its deepest shades approaches black, becoming a space in which the form is immersed and held. Lighter shades emerge as glimmers of light. Darkness and light meet: pain may be a descent, but depth is not necessarily the end. It can be the place from which something returns to the light. “Look at me closely, in the depths of my being you will find the light of the Soul.”-Veronica Fabozzo “Lamentation" is inspired by the dance solo by the dancer and choreographer Martha Graham, which she first performed herself in New York in 1930.
